United Kingdom Decisions

The highest court in the United Kingdom is the Supreme Court, which replaced the House of Lords in 2009. The UK Supreme Court reviews appeals from the Court of Appeal, which is divided into Criminal and Civil Divisions, and from the High Court, which is divided into Chancery, Queen’s (or King’s) Bench, and Family Divisions. While the Court of Appeal reviews only appeals on points of law, as does the UK Supreme Court, each division of the High Court reviews both appeals from other courts and some cases of “first instance.” Other courts in the UK include the Crown Court, the Magistrates’ Court, the County Court, and the Family Court.
